Since the folks I bought him from told me their neighbor lost a foal to a mountain lion, I suspect Banner knows all about lions and is keeping his eyes open all the time. Predatory animals will take whatever is catchable. The coyotes have taken some of our calves over the years. I keep hoping there are enough deer to keep the mountain lion we've seen around here infrequently well-fed and happy.Barbara ----- Original Message ----- From: <heidi@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: <greymare56@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Cc: <ranch@xxxxxxxxxxx>; <ridecamp@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Sunday, April 24, 2005 7:35 PM Subject: Re: OT ...Re: [RC] If you are concerned about America's wild horses an... 1.. <. I personally, would not want the numbers of my horses controlled by wandering predators. However having grazing animals preyed on by predators is a natural way to insure the strongest survive...in any case, we are not talking about YOUR horses. Fact: One of my fairly close neighbors lost a yearling Quarter Horse filly a couple of years ago to one of the reintroduced wolves--it was in a pole round pen by her house, and the kill was documented. There are frequent well-documented cases of cougar kills of domestic horses, and various predator kills of other sorts of livestock. It IS fact that predators are perfectly willing to kill domestic livestock--that isn't just Ed's "opinion." =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
