Re: [RC] Papers and horses - Becky HuffmanYep. in the eyes of the registry, the owner of the mare at the time of foaling owns the foal. period. it could be that the breeder in the case of the gelding under discussion is being unreasonable, it could also be that she is legitimately owed the money. maybe the colt was never paid for, -maybe he was bought on terms which were not met, - in which case, she may legally own the horse, -if it came to a court battle. It's always wise to question why a registrable horse is being sold without out papers. I've sold horses on terms in the past and held the papers until they were paid for, and have had horses sold out from under the agreement as unregistered and been unable to collect the balance. It tends to make one a little cranky. Becky Huffman, Cleburne, Texas www.TheOriginalSeries.com "Of the long years of peace ... there is little tale." Farrin Except that without transferring papers ownership stays with the breeder as far as the breed association is concerned and now, when You have campaigned your gelding to Legion of Merit status, as far as any reporting is concerned, its NOT your horse. Seems a tad unfair, AND misleading. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
