Re: [RC] great mares - John TeeterAgain, I'm seeing contrasts between what you are discussing as breeding in the US and what's happened here in Argentina. You speak of stallion owners advertising to find people with mares to whom to breed. That does happen here, but the people looking at developing endurance lines have BOTH stallion(s) and mares and the mares play a very important part in the development of the lines. They have 20-30+ mares, most of which are products of their own breeding - they select stallions of their own or of others to cross into their lines and they compete both mares and stallions to insure they are making good decisions in the lines. MOST of the foals thrown in a given year from any given stallion are hatched at the homes of the stallions it seems. 5th and 6th generation lines of breeding which have focused on endurance are not uncommon. It seems that simply offering up a stallion with good lines to any mare owner with the price of admission is not a good way to develop outstanding endurance lines. Am I missing something?? johnt (who has just spent a couple of hours doing a slideshow/video of some of the best mares/foals you're likely to find anywhere. and they were all basically in one pasture ...) =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
