Re: [RC] a vet perspective and a nutural horse foot perspective - heidi

The vet dug a hole in his sole, after testing for the precise location
of the abcess. Sunny (the horse) was instantaneously better.
<snip>
She also said that the vet had hurt my horse's foot by digging around
because she took out the abcess prematurely. She says what I should
have done was let the abcess blow out, because that way it would have
blown when it was supposed to blow and it would have done so much more
completely.

What she didn't tell you is that by letting the abcess run its course, you
also would have risked a great deal more damage underneath the hoof wall,
and might well have had a weakened area that would have taken months to
grow out. Not only does an abcess cause pain, but it can also migrate
along the tissue planes inside the hoof wall and under the sole, doing a
whole lot of harm!
