Can any vet out there shed light on this? I have total faith in the
vet caring for my mare, but this is a new problem for him. We are awaiting
results on lab work (growing culture from bacteria found in blood from left
kidney). The mare has been "off" for a year, many tests done, conclusion
always "infection somewhere but where?" That question was answered when
she started peeing blood. Scope and ultrasound showed the left kidney to
be dead or dying and blood running straight through. She's been living
with one kidney for some time. I cannot afford surgery - right now she's
on penicillin and sulfa drugs while we await the results of the culture.
No indication of a tumor has been found. She's on borrowed time - if we
cannot stop the bleeding short of surgery I will have no choice but to let her
go. Two universities are baffled by this - can anyone help? Feel
free to contact me at LMOLSON90@xxxxxxx as I am not usually on the
net at night.
