Re: [RC] panacur question/ivemectrin - heidiAs long as the topic is wormings..I have a question. Around here many folks buy the ivemectrin injectable( for cattle) and give it orally to their horses for worms. II think they give 1cc for each 100 pounds. have not done this as i find it a lil scarey to give an intramuscular orally..Anyone else know anything abou thtis practice? It's exactly the same stuff that is in the oral preparations. The dose is 1 ml per 110 lbs--just like with Eqvalan liquid. I just checked American Livestock Supply--they carry the 500 ml size for $198.60, which (with 50+ horses) is how I buy it. That means that a typical 900 lb Arab can be dewormed with ivermectin for about $3.50. The main caution is that many of the oral cattle preparations also contain other drugs which can be harmful to horses--so you have to make sure that you get one that is really only ivermectin, without stuff added for liver flukes, etc., etc. Heidi =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
