Re: [RC] On elevators and the Shut Up and Ride - heidiAny statistics on what percentage of elevator riders (at each distance) elect to elevate? I don't have any stats, just a long memory. The concept originated here in the NW, and at first, when it was a matter of "elevating" from 50 to 100, we did have a few folks who came to do the 100 who did so. But after that initial experimentation with it, I can't recall a single incidence of anyone elevating at a longer distance. But for quite awhile, it was AERC policy to allow elevating from LD to 50, and was encouraged. It wasn't highly publicized, but every year, I'd see a handful of folks do that. And having seen folks express an interest in it and then actually follow through with it is what makes me think that the concept has much more viability at the level of LD elevating to 50 than it does for the longer distances. Part of the difference, I think, is that folks going longer distances already "have their feet wet" so to speak, and have a better idea of what their capabilities are (or aren't). Folks newer to the sport who have done a bit of LD and have felt like they have a lot of horse afterward but still lack the experience and confidence to know what they CAN do are the ones most apt to use the LD-to-50 elevator concept--and they are exactly the sorts of folks for which it is intended and beneficial.
