Re: [RC] On elevators - heidiBut I think I heard someone once mention that if you elevate, you still only have until the cut off for the 50s. So if the 25s left a lot later than 50s, they would lose that time [but it would count in their final ride time]. If so, you would want to try and have the 25s & 50s leave close together time-wise. BUT don't the elevators end up having to do the exact trail as the 50s? So it means some planning to make sure the 25s can start soon after 50s, but preferably on a different trail, but still be able to do the entire 50 mile trail. Is that right? I can't remember how we handled the time thing on the LD-to-50 elevators. I do know that the way the AERC had this at the time (and no, I haven't looked to see if this is still in the rules) was that those that elevated were not placed, but got completion only. In most cases, if you are going to be in trouble with the maximum time due to losing an hour at the start, you probably aren't a candidate to elevate anyway. I think they still had to make the 50-miler cutoff, so if they DID start an hour later, they effectively had an 11-hour elapsed time to make the cutoff. Even starting out on 50s, it's a rare thing to need the entire time anyway (with the exception of the occasional super-tough course--not a good choice for a day to elevate anyhow), so this usually hasn't been an issue.
