I just read that melanin is a good free radical scavenger, so it would
follow that anywhere there is white may be more susceptible to disease,
although not necessarily injury.

These are not things I have experienced with any of my horses, so all I

say is that if white skin on legs is more susceptible to problems, then it
should be everywhere on a horse.  Is this the case?
