Re: [RC] Gold Country Awards - Barbara McCraryI must agree with Angie. If a prize is given even when there is no accomplishment, in this case being a ride completion, what is the value of the prize? I think it sends the wrong message, especially to kids. Sorry, I cannot agree with giving "participation" awards, but each ride manager must do what he or she wants. I'm not going to judge either the ride or the manager for what is done; I just happen to disagree with the principle. I just disagree. Not with *someone else* in mind...but picturing myself..even in the early days. If you never taste the bitter, the sweet is not as sweet. Completions get to be pretty boring, until you get pulled a few times, then they feel GREAT. How good does your mattress at your house feel? Well...if YOU sleep in a super luxurious camper I'll bet that mattress feels about 1/2 as good as *mine* feels after I return from a weekend on my cot. :-) Do we all insist on being on a constant state of up? How's about a down now and then to make up feel higher? I've gone home with nothing a few times, and I've been given t-shirts for rides I didn't finish. Don't like to wear them, I'd rather forget those rides. I don't understand people who go ride a course and pack up and leave. Heck, sometimes I think the only reason I go through riding the course is to be able to hang out with everyone afterwards.
