That's a good point, but the example he gave was
when he was riding with a foreign (japanese?) rider,
so I think he was "guiding" rather than top-tenning.

That was exactly my conclusion after writing my post
yesterday. Until you get out there and have been riding
all day, you don't know how you, your horse, and your
riding buddies are going to feel - so plan for all
possibilities and stay flexible.
