Re: [RC] [RC] Tevis - headlamps??? - Joe LongOn Sat, 10 Jul 2004 20:47:32 EDT, Marinera@xxxxxxx wrote: I would really like to hear more opinions on headlamps and the Tevis trail. I have found a beam from a headlamp terribly distracting to both the horse and rider to the point of making one almost nauseous. The horse tends to focus on the beam gyrating in front of him and less attention to the ground at his feet. Three glow sticks on the breast collar and a small flashlight in your pommel bag in case you have a problem are the best arrangement I have found. I don't want to be anywhere near a rider with a head lamp. I am interested in what others think Julie Suhr I agree with this, although I've only used one glowstick. I find the "mini-mag" works well for those times you have to scope out a marker or check out a hazard, as it lets you change the spread of the beam, yet is quite small and light (two AA batteries). Small and light enough to carry a spare as well. I think the worst situation is to have a rider behind you with a helmet light. Harsh shadows constantly dancing around in front of you, giving you vertigo and ruining your and your horse's night vision. -- Joe Long jlong@xxxxxxxx http://www.rnbw.com =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
