[RC] Tailgating on the trail - heidiI actually have a photo of one tailgating incident I experienced--it was at Tevis, at Cougar Rock, hence a photographer right on the spot. Here is a link to it... (It is the 4th photo down the page.) http://www.sagehillcmk.com/SurrabuPhotos2.html What you can't see in the photo is that the rider ahead of me had panicked and was scrambling all over the place. So I pulled up to give her space. (She made it fine, but might not have if she had been pressed.) The "gentleman" behind me actually rammed my horse in the rump several times. (And yes, I was on a stallion--but stallions, just like any other horses, need to learn their trail etiquette before they get in a jam...) You can see that my horse is very unhappy--ears not pinned, but definitely in "disgusted" position, and his body language suggests that he'd really LIKE to give the horse behind him a piece of his mind, but he can't because he knows better. You can also see that he is proceeding up the rock at a sedate but very forward WALK because that is what Mama told him to do--despite being rammed repeatedly in the rear end. Anyway--I always think of this picture when the subjects of horses in trouble on the trail and/or rude riders come up, so I thought I'd share. I can only imagine what sort of wreck might have happened had the tailgater been right behind the panicking horse, and I had not been a buffer in between on a "solid citizen."
