Re: [RC] wolves and end of arguement here - Truman Prevatt
Your argument is with the EU. We currently are being punished with
tariffs on many goods - including some agricultural goods by the EU
because we were ruled to be subsidizing those goods. It really doesn't
matter so much if the EU does or does not know what it cost to produce
beef in America - it is if they convience the WTO that we are in
violation of the treaties we signed.
FL citrus growers (and I suspect CA citrus growers) are in the same
pickle. Except it is the latin American countries that is claiming we
are subsidizing our citrus industry through illegal (as defined by the
treaties) subsidies.
It will take a while for it all to shake out but the thing that is
clear is the rest of the world is going to go after or markets for
agricultural goods and they are not happy about any subsidies the US
goverment gives to our industry. Eventually if they can grow the goods
cheaper they will win out in the market place.
BTW, same argument goes for the French being authorities on what it costs
to run cattle on public lands, Truman--they, like our own liberal folks
with an undenied agenda to remove ranchers and cattle, look only at the
AUM charge and don't take into account any of the other costs. The French
are well-known for not quite getting their ducks in a row when it comes to
politics.
