[RC] High School Football (was: Training facilities) - k s swigartHeidi said: That isn't a threat to the NBA, nor is either the NBA or the Olympics a threat to how our local high school boys are playing in the district tournament right now. As more and more people get involved with our sport, the easier it is to have different goals and different levels and types of competition to suit a great many of us. And while I cannot say for sure about high school basketball in Heidi's neck of the woods, I can definitely say that what she says isn't true of high school football in my neck of the woods....and as a result here in Southern California teen age boys are using dog steroids from Mexico because, to quote a high school football coach whose brother (or maybe it is his brother in law) is a friend of mine, "No, high school football isn't just a game any more." If a young kid around here wants to PLAY football (instead of get into the football business at the age of 13 by participating in school sports), he has to play pick up gamess in his back yard. Because if he wants to play at school he WILL be expected to do everything he can to win, he will even be expected (wink, wink) to cheat at it....just so long as he doesn't get caught. Either that, or he has to wait until he becomes an adult, and can play in the accountant's league with the guys at work. High school football isn't a very fun game for people who just want to play well and play fair. How they play in the NFL has A LOT to do with how they play in high school. So if that is the analogy, then what they are doing in the international arena and/or the UAE could have A LOT to do with how the AERC plays at endurance at home. Americans who want to play in the international arena have to "qualify" by playing at AERC rides, and the AERC may have to change its rules to police people who aren't even (by Heidi's own admission) playing the same game. kat Orange County, Calif. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
