Re: [RC] ground control shoes - Maggie MieskeIt's www.plastichorseshoes.com. The ground control shoes work great for SOME horses but not all. They work best for horses with compact feet. We have not had luck using them on horses whose feet tend to flare because they do allow expansion of the hoof to a degree. At the end of the season we left GC shoes on our stallion as an experiment to see how they would stay on....they lasted 2 and 1/2 months and the only reason we took them off was because he was growing too long in them and not moving well anymore. He has great feet to begin with though. They were nice to have on in the snow because it didn't ball up in his feet then. But not good for traction if it's icy. It's also very easy to add Equi Pak under these. OH, and as a side note, Nelson only uses 5 nails in the GC shoes. We have had good luck with them but there are some tricks to using them.
