Re: [RC] ground control shoes - sharp pennyI have used these shoes and really loved them. Had them on my horse for the Biltmore Fall ride last year. Put them on about 2 weeks before the ride, hauled to GA to ride in the mountains, competed with them on at Biltmore, hauled back home (TX) with a 3 day stop at Natchez Trace park in TN to ride with friends. They stayed on the entire time and we went through alot of muddy mucky places in TN where if they were gonna come off they would have. I liked the traction we got on the paved roads, could trot/canter without slipping. Got the same kind of traction on wet grass as I do with regular steel shoes.(no more or no less slippery) I like how they cover the bottom of the hoof with the exception of the sides of the frog. Nothing lodged itself under the shoe as can happen sometimes with full pads. Again there were plenty of opportunities travesing, pea gravel roads and ankle deep boggs. Reno tends to forge when tired and this didn't bother the shoes. The only thing I didn't like was after 6 weeeks you could see stress fractures running from the nail holes to the ground. (not on all the nail holes, only some). My horse has awesome feet and this has never been an issue with any other shoes I've used. For me, these are not every day shoes but a good option when going to locations that warrent the added protection. My farrier liked them and is currently using them on some of his navicular and foundered horses. So far he hasn't seen the nail hole stress fractures on these horses but they don't do the miles on varied terrain that we put on our horses. He did mention how easy they were to shape and nail on. Said don't have to be a good hot shoe farrier to fit and apply these shoes. Only bad thing is you can't reshape them if you mess up and pare off too much in fitting them...lol Regards, Penny --- Amy Cieri <ridesallday@xxxxxxxxxxx> wrote: --------------------------------- Wendy mentioned switching to this shoe after have concussion related hoof problems. Had something similar with my horse after the OD 50 this year. Where do you find these shoes, how much do they cost, do they last more than one shoeing, and is there a greater risk of them coming off? --------------------------------- Help STOP SPAM with the new MSN 8 and get 2 months FREE*=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
