I agree both(CTR, LD's) are distance riders as would the pleasure trail rider
who rides long distances in a day. The distinction is the LD is in the same
basic format(a race...remember mark, set, go... first to finish(pulse down)
wins - which I have no problem with and enjoy) as endurance. So LD is more
like endurance then CTR or pleasure long distance riding.

My apologies for the volume of posts on this, but dogonnit ...

LD rides being "more like" endurance rides than CTR's does not make
them endurance rides! Not only is "pulse down" fundamentally
different than first across the finish line -- they are, simply,
fundamentally, and by the definition of an Endurance Ride, *not long
enough.*

*** What part of "not long enough" is so hard to understand? ***

Again only for ease of conversation with others and not to make me or anyone
else more or less important in what they do for fun.

So, it's OK to call an apple an orange if it makes for ease of
conversation? What's wrong with just calling them distance rides?
That seems easy enough to me.

There's no rocket science here. We have distance rides, which include
many forms of riding a long way. Among them are endurance rides,
those which meet the AERC definition; competitive trail rides, which
meet the definitions of their sanctioning organizations; Limited
Distance rides, which meet the AERC's LD definition; and others. No
problem.

The only problem is people whining that LD riders are being treated as
"second-class citizens" because they don't get all of the same
recognition as the endurance riders, and people who only ride LD
demanding to be called "endurance riders" without EARNING it by riding
an endurance ride.

And I hope that's the last I write on this subject! (at least this
time around, I know it'll be back)
