Re: [RC] [RC] Limited Distance OOC? - Maggie MieskeDeanna, I guess I still fail to see the logic of how you fail your horse if you do what's best for them, esp. if it's your call and you pull because "something isn't right" (NOT taking into account the people that lose their head and override their horse or simply don't "get it")...pulling or being pulled in the best interests of your horse certainly isn't failing in my book. I also don't consider getting pulled at the end of a ride because my horse found a root with his name on it 1/2 mile from the finish makes me a failure...in that case, shit did happen. When we do the best we can on any given day, even if we come up short, we cannot be that hard on ourselves... yes, major difference of opinion and there's room for it but this just doesn't ring right to me. No Maggie, I'm not jesting. I have my share of non-completions (failures) to look back on too. (Knocking furiously on wood, only one OT failure with this horse.) In each case I either failed to bring a horse capable of the task at hand or I failed in my horsemanship. I don't know how much more cut and dry it gets than that. I don't really believe too much in "sh** happens". And I don't believe a person must experience pulls in order to learn. If my horse comes up lame or metabolically compromised, I will truly believe that I have failed her. Lots of room for differences of opinions and different goals in distance riding sports. Sometimes "shit happens". I started myself and later Malik out on 25 LD and comp rides...I must have learned something somewhere.
