(Knocking furiously on wood, only one OT failure with this horse.) In each case I either failed to bring a horse capable of the task at hand or I failed in my horsemanship. I don't know how much more cut and dry it gets than that. I don't really believe too much in "sh** happens". And I don't believe a person must experience pulls in order to learn. If my horse comes up lame or metabolically compromised, I will truly believe that I have failed her. Lots of room for differences of opinions and different goals in distance riding sports.
