Years ago an old horseman, who had served in the US Calvery,
told me how they trained green horses to swim rivers.
They had a barge in a deep river. They would tie onto the horse
and tow it out into the deep water. Some horses struggled, went under, kicked
off from the bottom, and splashed back down a few times. He claimed that they
all learned to swim. He did mention how many (if any) drowned.
