Re: [RC] trailer ties - Ed Kilpatrick

yeah, me too, heidi.  if my horse gets tangled,  he is more than likely just gonna stand there and wait until i help him out.  the spring tie is a good system, even with that break away.  it does take quite a bit of force to break that snap, george lay down in a red ant bed once,(hadnt noticed it under some pine straw when i checked the area) jumped up and hit the end of the lead and snapped that plastic buckle.  he didnt run off though, just stood there trying to figure out what got him. so, in some cases, a break away is a good thing.    ed

Given the woes that can happen to loose horses, I'm leery to use ANY product or tie system with a built-in breakaway system like that.  I'd prefer to have a horse educated to the concept that if he becomes tangled, he doesn't fight it, than risk having one get loose, personally.  (And even stuff that isn't SUPPOSED to break does so sometimes when I'd far rather have had the horse remain tied...)  JMHO.

annie, i use the spring ties(from equestrian safety products).  they work great, have two of them.  the horses are able to lie down to sleep, move about very freely and the heavy duty spring eliminates any bumping noises from the horse moving about.  the tether line that comes with it has a heavy plastic buckle which serves as the "safety link".  if something happens, i.e. the horse gets tangled, the plastic buckle will break and he can get loose.  i have used them for nearly two years and have not had a horse get tangled yet.   ed
