Re: [RC] Tying vs. Not Tying in a stock trailer - Char & JeffHi When I'm hauling just one horse I always swing the partition out of the way for my little arab to wander around in the trailer. I make sure there's nothing he can get hung up in but, you're right, they can find something if they've a mind to. He LOVES it. On the other hand my Thoroughbred is a jibbering idiot if I don't have him in tight partitions for him to lean against. So I guess it comes down to the horse's personal preference. I know there are a ton of opinions on this so what I'd really like is personal experience. I've heard a lot of do's and don'ts, but it's really the WHY behind it all that I'm after. The situation is this: I have a big trip coming up and my little beastie can be very finicky about loading. So once he's in, he will be in for a 10 to 12 hour day. Will water, feed, etc. but no getting out of that trailer till the day is done! Given that my 2 horse slant load trailer can be opened up into a stock configuration I'm considering doing this to give him a bit more room to stretch his legs. So my next question would be to tie or not to tie. I've seen horses travel both ways and I'm sure there are pros and cons to each. Further, I'm of the mind that no matter what safety precautions you take, most horses can still come up with a million ways to get themselves into trouble. Thanks in advance for the info. We've got 3 days on the road coming up and I'm just trying to find a good balance between safety and comfort. P.S. - I have gotten some wonderful referrals on "horse hotels" for Oklahoma City, but none for the St. Louis area. I've got the links but I'd love a good personal reference.
