Re: [RC] Twitch for loading/Quietex - Stephanie E Caldwell

I used Quietex for about 6 months with my current horse. She had stifle and
back problems and was confined to a little pen alone, without the Quietex
she was a monster when we'd handwalk and ride, with it she was a little
lamb. It's a homeopathic in a lactose base, Valirian 8x strength. It's a
small enough dose that it shouldn't test, but if I had it to do over again
I'd go to the local health food store and buy some homeopathic Valerian in
8x and 200c (a much stronger dose) to keep on hand for when I had to calm
her down!

BTW, I got mine through KV Vet supply.

Ok ... I saw mention of Quietex the other day and went in search for it
and
all I could find was a human quit-smoking drug. Any comments?

I'm looking because I have a mare that's a joy to ride but get so
extremely
nervous in the trailer that even after a 10 minute ride she comes out
dripping in sweat. So far, we're taking 10-minute rides to a nearby
stables
and last week a 45-minute ride to a nearby conditioning trail. However,
the
closest endurance ride to me is 2 hours and can just envision what she's
going to be like by the time we get there.

I'll take any and all comments!!!

Hi Amanda
The twitch in the trailer sounds like an accident waiting to happen. I
would just put the trailer in his pasture or back it to his paddock and
put his food in it for a while so that he learns it is a good place to
be. Much easier on you and him and safer.
Good luck
Bette

The recent posts have made me wonder if it is wortwhile trying a
twitch to teach him to stand still once loaded? I have seen
twitches which are designed to be attached to a cross tie so it
does not have to be held on to. My objective here is to just
get him used to standing on the trailer: no eating, no backing
off: just stand. Also was wondering of Ace or quietex might
help him not be quite so nervous while on the trailer.

Thoughts?
