Re: [RC] beet pulp and colic: Susan G? - Maggie MieskeTrying to read some of the most recent threads...I thought I'd pipe in... I use zip loc bags and send my grain and beet pulp to the vet check dry. I also take some alfalfa pellets to add to it if I can't find some nice alfalfa for the checks and add those in, too for some added calcium. Nelson usually crews for me and has it ready and it's been soaking for a little bit when we arrive. But I've also had to make up my own at the check and as long as it's wet, I don't worry if it's had time to "soak". I use small (1 quart) bags so we can always add more to it rather than have too much and have to dump it or let it get icky if it's hot out. And I think Susan is right...if you don't normally feed beet pulp at home, at a ride might not be the time to try it. Also be careful with too many apples and carrots and such. Add them at least some of the time at home. Maggie =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
