Re: [RC] health & fitness - Bonnie DavisBoy, there's one thing I have to say about you endurance riders -- you are MOTIVATED! I thought it was only my daughter who gets up at 4:30 in the morning to go turn horses out, comes home and feeds family to get 'em to school and husband to work, then back to barn and home again by 2:30 to pick kids up, deliver to 'kid functions', back to the barn, back home at 6 to cook supper and pick up kids. Back to barn at 8-8:30 to blanket and 'tuck' the horses in! Put kids to bed about 9 and then she's in bed about 10. And she DOESN'T endurance ride -- that's her normal day of taking care of her 2 horses and a barn full of others and other days when she goes roping and does cow work, who sleeps? Me, I just ride my horses. Up to the barn about 10 (after breakfast). Goof around and then home about 2 -- except on Monday, Wednesday and Friday when I have to take my husband to Rehab so don't get to the barn. As for losing weight I gave up on that......I just buy bigger horses! Happy New Year all...... Which will change my weight division unless I carry extra weight with me. I was teetering on HW at the last ride in which I stood for BC and only losing 5# will make me a middleweight, 20# should keep me there. Should I just carry lots of extra water bottles or put lead in my pockets and keep riding as a HW? Or do that when I condition and then ride as a middleweight? :) What a dilemma! Guess I better get to work on losing it first before I worry too much about it! I'm hoping to keep myself motivated and healthy by walking 2 or 3 days a week (plus riding weather permitting, of course) and maybe going to the local pool a couple of times a week for a water aerobics class. Swimming is VERY good low impact exercise. I LOVE it! Might be something for you to consider with your rotator cuff problem. Don't know if that'll help you much in the buddy department or not... =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
