Re: [RC] [RC] health & fitness - Laurie Durgin

I use my treadmill to walk and read(if I keep it at about 2.7 mph.I can hold the book and read, can increase incline.(of course I haven't been on it , cause I am too busy!!!lately, but I will soon. I also walk a bit , going out with Rascal and coming back too.(on the ground>bg<).S Fixing the ring(like handraking the low spots, stripping stalls, while pushing a full wheelbarrow thru 6-8inches of mud(uphill).Going up and down the stairs 10-15. times a day because I keep forgetting things. Some stretches with my foot on the bathroom counter.

It's almost New Years! Time for resolutions right? Ready to get active? I
just got back from the Dr. who released me for normal activities for the
collarbone injury. But he said something I thought was pretty funny...
"If you have to ride horses, is there something safer you could do with
them?" >g< I told him "forget it" and he dropped it. :-)

I'm ready to get myself back in shape...thus...I bought my daughters some
exercise equipment & tapes for Christmas.
>eg< I think I'll pass on the "How to Bellydance" DVD Bonnie got, but I
am really liking the Pilates that I got Josie. It seems like it would
help my riding since it puts lots of emphasis on slow form and core
strength. When I'm going slow I can see how much I tend to favor one
side, sort of pulling to the right like a car out of balance.

I also got one of those big (beachball size) balls that you do exercises
with. When the riding instructor/therapist type guy worked with us at the
PAC he highly recommended the ball and I can see how it lets me know
right off when I'm unbalanced (kerplunk ouch!)..but...I don't know any
decent exercise programs for it.

I know that somewhere in this group there's probably a fitness
instructor. Any riders out there using it? Any videos you recommend? I
can't handle *any* impact. I've been working out at 5 AM (since I was
using Josie's presents for a week before she got them) and the crunching
from my knees is nauseating in a silent house. Walking irritates my
knees, especially since everything around here is hills so I have to use
my butt muscles and stiff leg it (I can easily see why horses with bad
fetlocks have chest soreness after a hilly ride!) Haven't been able to
bike because of collarbone but that's changing. :-) So what are ya'll
doing? Surely there's some resolutioning going on.

Anybody want to go off Ridecamp and be an exercise buddy for a month or
two? Could help fend off the muddy trails cabin fever.

P.S. Starting physical therapy for rotator cuff problem in non- broken
collarbone shoulder. Never had a problem until came out of surgery for
collarbone. Anybody with this problem wanna write me privately?

Angie (falling apart but patching furiously)
