Don't forget that they race the opposite direction (to the right) in England
and I believe in Dubai. In Morning exercises some trainers will have their
riders work the horse in reverse to what they race so they don't become one
sided or over work and strain anything. This is also done on horses that are
very difficult to hold as they tend to not want to run off with their rider in
reverse. Is this because they only prefer to run to the left (left hoofed) or
is it because they usually only "race" in this direction? Keep in mind race
horses are galloping and good one change leads into the turn and out and down
the stretch to get that extra gear.

The trotters and pacers do the same in the mornings.... go in the reverse
direction they race in and sometimes do so for many miles.

Yep I have noticed this but still wonder if this not because of the horse but
because I am right handed and tend to do the Left naturally as you say. Any
lefties out there that prefer the right diagonal? Good question for dressage
trainers...
