You
stated <<<We had taken RO with Blaze after the first loop since I could see
an occasional head bob during the first loop (I was riding right behind) and we
didn’t want to take any chances. In his attempt the ride before to
take the weight off of his hoof with the torn pad, he put extra stress on his
weird, wingy leg in front.>>>>
I
find this a bit disconcerting , the use of rider option, as a reason for the
pull. It was obviously a lameness pull and should have been recorded as such.
When the RO option is used in like cases, it completely skews our studies of
the problems encountered in endurance riding. True reporting of the cause is
very important in all cases.
Thanks
for your thoughts on this matter.

We
discussed this with the vet at the ride...he said it wasn’t enough that
he would pull him and would still let him go on.. he classified it as a
1+...but I didn’t want to take any chances since I use him for a
schooling horse. What I saw was on the trail and not demonstrated to any
degree at the vet check. The new RO listings would list it as ROL. I’ve
continued on with Cabby at another ride with a 2 at the out vet check -- and
finished at a walk, sound by the final vet check. Jim and I had discussed
this before we got into the vet check...It wasn’t worth it to push Blaze
so it was our call to pull him for head bobs we saw on the trail. We were
given the go-ahead from the vet but opted to pull anyway.
