Re: [RC] Gelding is no longer for sale - Tim Worden
Sounds like you found a great horse, Rhonda. Reading
this I thought you may have stolen my new boy;) I too
just got a great new gelding. Went to a registered
horse sale at a sale barn....or killer barn as most
people call them I guess. We had not planned on
buying, but then this 14y/o 15.2hh registered bay
Arabian gelding came up. He was quite fat since he
had not been ridden in a couple years. The only flaw
on him was a right rear sock...which I don't like
socks on Bays, but I could look passed it I guess. He
was giving the cowboy quite a ride which all the more
turned people off to this Ay-rab....much to our
benefit. All I've ridden are hot blood Arabs, so this
was nothing to me. We won the bid for a REALLY good
price. I was now the owner of Ser Free Spirit. I
didn't get much sleep that night. The next day I
messed with him a bit... tied him, combed him, clipped
him, all the while he was an angel. Now was the test,
a nice trail ride. He took the saddle like it was old
hat...he better since he was 14. It was great to be
on a taller horse. The ride was great and he was able
to encounter many tests from cars, trucks, quads, mud,
streams....and he also drinks from mud puddles.
Believe it or not, the only bug he had was from a
black trash bag moving in a field. Spirit is
definitely my dream horse come true. Jayda, my 8y/o
14.2hh mare that I've been competing on, is wonderful
as well but I really felt I needed a taller horse for
my 6ft body. For those interested, check out my add
for Jayda in the classifieds. She'll be at the
Carolina ride on Thanksgiving doing her first 50.
I'll have Spirit ready and doing 50s starting next
season at the Sandhills Stampede in SC. Then the true
test of LeatherWood the week after.

<<<That gray half-Arabian that I told you guys about
is no longer for sale. An
acquaintance was selling him and I thought that he
would be a great prospect
for someone other than me, because I didn't want a
gelding. The more I
thought about him and the more I saw him, the more I
liked him. Finally, I
broke down and rode him, despite his owner's
statements that he reared and
bucked. Well, he hasn't reared or bucked and he has
the smoothest trot and
great athletic ability. So, I bought him.
After riding him several times for 8-10 miles, I can
see where he MIGHT buck
or rear with a beginner, or with someone who wanted
him to act like a quarter
horse. He's very sensitive, but that also means that
in only three rides, he
has started picking up on very subtle cues. He loves
to trot, he loves the
trail and is more eager to head down a new trail than
he is to go back to the
barn. Today he stopped and tried to drink out of a
puddle!!!!! FINALLY! A
horse that drinks on the trail. I'm really excited
about him; can you tell?
