Re: cars roads and passing horses
In defense of SOME drivers who are rude to horse riders...
I married one. He's from the big city (D.C.). He didn't have the concept
that horses "spooked" so he'd drive right by them full speed, windows down,
radio blaring. I'd bet a lot of rude drivers have no clue they are being
rude. Most people from the city are around pets who are carnivores and
don't have the strong flight instinct. :-) Now that hubby has his own
horse, he completely understands (though he learned an invaluable lesson in
equine etiqutte the first time he zoomed past one while I was in the car - I
think I might have over-reacted a bit, but he got the point). He also
learned the value of talking to horses when they are approaching on a trail,
and he learned to give right of way. I hope a lot of the "rude" people are
like him, and not intentionally rude - just oblivious. There's a lot of
hope for those people.
I think he thought horses were more like dogs - people walking dogs usually
don't have problems with their dogs "spooking".
