I don't post often, but got a "love letter" from IAHA today with the
new ride report forms for competitive trail and endurance.
I do mostly competitive trail, but this also affects endurance.
In the past, points for NATRC rides have been calculated on how many
horses started the ride in your division and where you placed. You got so
many points for completing, then so many points for your placing depending
on total entries (got to count the number of horses in the entire Open
division if you won Sweepstakes), then multiplying by a mileage factor.
The "BAD" news today is that now they're going to separate out
points by how many purebreds and how many Half-Arabs you're competing
against. We won't be able to count the rest of the horses in the ride any
longer. Our points will only be calculated on how we placed amongst our
"breed." So if there are 6 purebreds, 2 half-Arabs, 10 Quarter Horses, 3
Missouri Foxtrotters, 4 TWHs, a Paso and a mule, and the purebred Arab wins
Open Sweepstakes, it will only get points for competing against six horses.
The half-Arab in the same circumstance would only get completion points and
mileage since IAHA doesn't consider 2 horses a full class. Never mind that
you beat 26 horses to win Sweepstakes, you only beat five Arabs (or one
half-Arab) in these examples.
Perhaps I'm misunderstanding the new form. I sure hope so, 'cause
it certainly doesn't seem very fair.
This is a new way of figuring points, and not that I'm in it for the
glory (what glory is there, really, besides the personal satisfaction and
another plaque for the wall), but it's really aggravating to have them
change the rules in the middle of the game.
I'M PRETTY HOT ABOUT THIS (AND YES I'M SHOUTING MAD!!!) Never saw
anything about it in proposed rules changes. What can IAHA be thinking of!
I get the feeling that IAHA thinks all breeds other than Arabs and
half-Arabs are second class. It's just not right...
