GREAT NEWS ABOUT MOUNTAIN QUARRIES ~ "No Hands" ~ BRIDGE
I am pleased to report that I learned today that temporary stabilization
of No Hands Bridge will probably start tomorrow, Friday, October 17,
1997.
A contract has been awarded by the US Bureau of Reclamation to INSHORE
DIVERS of Pittsburg, CA for work consisting of: 1). Wire wrap remaining
foundation blocks 2, 3 and 4 ; 2). Attempt to grout the vertical spaces
between blocks 2, 3 and 4 and attempt to grout underneath blocks 2, 3
and 4 ; 3). Placement of prefabricated grout bags in existing voids
under blocks 2, 3 and 4; and 4). Possible placement of additional
prefabricated grout bags to form diversion barrier between block 1 and
2.
It is anticipated that all work will be completed within 15 to 20
working days.
We should all thank the efforts of Congressman John T. Doolittle
(R-Rocklin, CA) for his concern of an historic structure that is dear to
the hearts of runners, equestrians, hikers and users of the Western
States Trail over the American River near Auburn, CA. Hats are also off
to Steven Anderson representing the USBR and to Richard Robinson of
Congressman Doolittle's office. Without their effort, this repair
wouldn't have gotten as far as it is now. Perhaps we can all drop a
note to Congressman Doolittle (2130 Professional Drive, #190, Roseville,
CA 95661 or email at doolittle@hr.house.gov) and thank him for getting
funding for this project.
As the project continues reports will be provided.
Remember ... YOU ALL HELPED SAVE NO HANDS BRIDGE.

Larry Suddjian, Vice President and Ride Director
