If you "really think that", then why do you seem to be going
out of your way to make sure it doesn't happen?

I guess I don't see why this should be so, or why you think
this is a "patchwork fix".

It's a simple, common-sense thing:

If you are a US citizen/resident alien, you have a US address
and get to vote.

And, as Maryanne has pointed out, if you *don't* have a US
address, then you can't get EN, let alone a ballot.

Contrary to some people's opinions, I doubt that AERC is
riddled with illegal aliens with US addresses. To stay in
this country illegally for any period of time (i.e. long
enough to bother joining AERC) you have to stay below the
radar - which usually means having a minimum wage job. People
on minimum wage don't tend to have the money to pay for horse
feed/shoes, let alone AERC m'ship, etc.

Ipso facto, you can probably safely assume that if someone
is an AERC member with a US address, they are probably legal.

You seem to be doing your best to prevent legislation going
through that:

a) doesn't affect you in any way
b) does affect a small number of AERC members who should
   legitimately be allowed to vote.

I figure the biggest problem with this amendment is that it
affects so few people that the majority of members won't
bother to vote, so it won't pass just because of apathy
(be interesting to see if this turns out to be the case).

Most of the vocal posts on the subject seem to reflect a
"no vote" (but are also mostly based on incorrect assumptions
or misunderstanding the issue).
