Re: [RC] Ride time v. Elapsed Time - Jim Holland

This issue has been discussed several times. The problem, as I
understand it, is that we are asking for that informtion on the Ride
Sanction form. That information may not be finalized at sanction time
and the fields cannot be updated once the sanctioning has been entered.
Completion of all fields on the Ride Sanction form is not enforced by
AERC. Seems to me that a ride should not be sanctioned unless the form
is complete....otherwise, why bother to ask?

In addition, we should ask for that data with ride RESULTS....much
easier for the Ride Manager and more accurate....and withhold posting
ride results until all information is provided. If AERC can withhold
ride results for non-payment of fees, we can also do it for incomplete
forms....that is, if we are really serious about collecting valid data
and using it constructively for the benefit of our horses.

I hope, with some prodding from the Horse Welfare Committee, and other
associated Committees, this will be addressed by the BOD, who have been
aware of this problem for some time.

It would also be an interesting numbers to look at, however, they are
not in the DB. Along with the amount of hold time the distribution of
the hold time would be of interest, e.g. 3 40 minute holds in a 50
compared to two one hour holds, etc. The interesting thing is that
there are fields in the DB for hold times, number of checks, etc. but
they are all blank. In general this information is not supplied by the
RM's. It would be very useful to have such data and would go a long
way in putting together a better picture.
