Re: [RC] LD/50 mile speed comparsion - Truman Prevatt

Rule 5.2 Maximum competition time will be according to the following prescription: 12 hours for 50 miles, 24 hours for 100 miles, and other distances to be according to the chart in

Ride time is the time ridden on the trail (excluding hold times).

The ride times are what is listed in the AERC results not competition times.

Most 25's have a 20 to 40 minute hold time which gives 5:20 to 5:30 of ride time available to finish a ride. My mare could (and has ) walked that.

It ia pretty generous amount of time to finish a ride and it gives you a much longer time than in the CTR's I am familiar with (3:45 - 4:30) for a 25 with a 10 minute stop for pulse and water.

Not to confuse "competition time" (the 6 hour max on a 25) and "completion time" (or the more common "ride time") which is the time it takes to finish the course. The hold times are not counted in the later, but they are in the former. go figure....

If I don't make the "competition time" --

Limited Distance Maximum Ride Time
Hours : Minutes // Including all Holds and Checks
Ride Length, Miles              25      30      35
Maximum Time:           6:00    7:15    8:30

-- I don't get a completion -- I'm OT.  Long rest times just mean we have to book harder out on the trail, which sorta negates the purpose of resting <g>.
