Re: [RC] Using breast collars on flat trails... - DESERTRYDR1Have to agree with Heidi on this one, I have never ridden with a breast collar, crupper or any other saddle-stabilizing devices. The less crap I have to deal with the better. My horses have withers, and a decent hollow behind the should er to fit the saddle to. Wasn't always true, until I switched to a dressage saddle, my Arab mare, who does have withers, had a problem with saddles sliding up her neck. Caused by improper saddle fit. Another thing is that some people, due to the way they ride, have more problems with the saddle, pads, etc. moving around. My friend is one of these. I can get on her horses, and have very little movement of tack, but she is always stopping to adjust things that have moved. I have a 2 yr old mule, and I admit, I'm thinking of a crupper. But I did select this particular mule partly, because even at 1, she looked like she had the potential for good withers, and a slight dip behind them to hold the saddle in place, not quite as flat backed as lots of mules. (I also liked her attitude) The selection process will influence the breeding process. Like Heidi, I look for an animal that is properly conformed for the job I'm going to do. jeri =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= http://www.endurance.net/ads/seabiscuit.html Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
