Re: [RC] Q for the vets--purge vs tape worming - Karen Sullivan----- Original Message ----- From: "Susan Garlinghouse, DVM" <suendavid@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> Pretty much, the only way to deworm "wrong" is to not do it at all. Having said that, I've gotten pretty fond of doing a panacur purge (double dose per day for 4-5 days), followed a few weeks later by ivermectin. Even in horses with negative fecals, they just seem to bloom afterwards. If you are going to do the panacur purge, it's a lot less expensive to find a livestock supply house that carries the fenbendazole suspension 1000 ml, as opposed to ten tubes of the equine paste. Same stuff and concentration, just a different carrier, and much cheaper. Susan G, DVM Yes, American livestock supply carries it for about $106....which works out to under $25 per horse (depending on dosage), which is half the amount of buying in in tubes. I also think giving it liquid in a syringe is far easier than the paste tubes....
