    I have to admit, there's a pretty big leap from "lapping water" to "mineral
    deficiency".  There just isn't any logical connection between the two, even
    without getting into a discussion about why horses aren't nearly as good at
    choosing what they "need" as a lot of people think they are.
    
    Anyway, there can be a lot of reasons why your horse was flapping his tongue
    in the water, but mineral deficiency would be waaaaaay at the bottom of my
    list.  I think he was just goofing around or liked the taste of the water.
    Assuming that you horse also has access to free choice salt at home in that
    green pasture, don't go making any changes to your ration.  You're 99% more
    likely to be creating more problems than solving any.
