Number 1) John Wayne never rode an Arab.
Number 2) Even the mildest mannered horse can turn into a monster at an endurance ride. Thank God I had friends that insisted I buy a helmet for my first endurance ride. I was hesitant, I had never wore one before and tend to be a little vain about my hair. My mare Star is the sweetest mare in the world, a joy to ride, but my friends wouldn't relent. So I thought okay I'll buy one and take it, but I probably won't wear it. Well, I got to the camp and decided to take Star out for a little spin. It wasn't long before a group of about 10 endurance riders came up fast behind us. It was amazing, my sweet, quiet Stardancer turned into a Lipazzan, doing moves I had never seen before. Needless to say I was wearing the helmet the next day at the ride start.
