Re: RC: Re: deworming program (quest)
I don't know whether Quest was responsible for my horse's illness or not. All
I know is I won't use it again. I have an 8 yr. old Arab gelding that I have
owned since he was 5 months old. He has never been sick a day in his life.
Last November, 1999, I wormed him with Quest and three weeks later he
colicked for the first time in his life and ended up in the hospital for 5
days. His white cell count was high, his temperature was elevated and the
belly taps showed peritonitis of the abdominal cavity. The reading for the
taps was 175 (whatever that means) with 5 being normal. They x-rayed him and
ultrasounded him and could find nothing and they were stumped as to what was
the problem. After 2 more weeks of antibiotics he started feeling better and
is OK now.
A friend warned me about Quest over a year ago. She used it on her horse and
the horse was OK, but one dog died, the other barely survived and her friend
who wormed at the same time with Quest, lost a cat. Apparently if even one
little drop hits the floor and the dogs get it, or in the cat's case, the vet
figured the cat's paw stepped in a drop of it and she licked her paw and
died. When my friend called Fort Dodge they were not too willing to discuss
it with her. She had the impression they had other complaints and didn't want
to admit it was that dangerous.
