*NO*, not mine! ;-) (Desperately trying to do the "Smaller Butt Development" program there. <g>) The question, or should I say -- consideration -- is regarding the #6 horse in the barn. Sherry is a well-built, mentally sound, gorgeous buckskin dun QH mare, 6yo, 16h. who is built more like an Appendix...long legs, not too muscely (good muscle distribution but not huge masses in the rear), forward moving, good sliding stops on the lunge, and nice straight gaits with a good reach. She is out of racing lines and from Nebraska...ownership acquired as payment on a debt. I came close to selling her, but my husband adores this horse and couldn't part with her...and, I have to admit, with a couple years of good training, will be an excellent schooling horse. Right now her destination is trail and LD...at least that's Steve's aspiration. Finally...to the question. We do a *LOT* of hill work here (good intent, but mostly because where we train is mostly up and down <g>) and I'd like for Sherry to *not* develop humongo butt muscles. What's the best approach...or, does a long, slow conditioning program compensate for what nature deemed inevitable? In other words, will she get them no matter what we do because of how she's wired -- and the difference can be compensated with a specific training program designed considering those factors? I'm not even sure it's genetically there (haven't researched her lines yet, but she's not a heavy set QH.) She *is* a well built (well proportioned) but totally out of condition QH. My inclination is the latter... Any thoughts or suggestion would be greatly appreciated. TIA. Sue sbrown@wamedes.com Tyee Farm Marysville, Wa.
