><< But, it isn't winning. Winning is winning. Participating is > participating. Completing is *not* just participating. Participating is entering. Completing is meeting the challenge. I have "won" 2 races ever. After those rides, it would have been hard to sit around and feel good if everyone else there had "lost". Instead, we had a great time sitting around telling what had happened on the trail. Lots of us were "winners", and those who didn't win that day, had our sympathy, and got encouragement from us to try again next time. Seems that somebody has decided that we're all having way too much fun and enjoying each other's company too much when we should be plotting each others demise. I'm prouder of my lifetime record than of those "wins". I've seen several "losers" (in my eyes) come out and win one ride, then disappear. If there's one thing this sport teaches you it's to pace yourself...hourly, daily, yearly, and over the course of a career.
