Depends greatly on what KIND of alfalfa....I am on the east coast and have feed
60-80% alfalfa for 20 years with NO problems...even when I RACED....I did have a
big time tie-up, tho, when I left my horses with a friend for the Pan Am in
1997, then went to a ride in Montana on the way home...My mare tied up
badly...turned out she had straight west coast alfalfa for nearly a week and
then I put her back on what I had from the East....too much change in diet...TOO
much calcium, then a sudden deprivation in comparison just a few days before the
ride.
Looking back it was all so simple.....
