Not particularly useful for low instantaneous speeds. Selective Availability (the fudge factor the military deliberately introduces and which is not corrected in civilian units) can introduce an error in speed of at least as much as 2.5 mph. There are ways around this (differential correction), but that requires more equipment that most folks would care to pay for. Likewise, the odometer reading will be in error as well - the slower the speed, the greater the potential error. They are a very useful tool, but be aware of the limitations.
