I was at the Norco ride. As I posted earlier, we had 12 riders there. I
didn't see any of this (scared vets. Vs out of line horses). Maybe some
wiggly ones because they were excited and new to the commotion. I must have
missed a lot. :)
I do agree that there were a lot of newbies at this ride. I thought that
was a great thing as far as promotion of endurance riding goes. Maybe some
people just didn't know about the pre-ride exam or they had no idea about how
to prepare for such a thing. Horses will surprise you on how different they
will behave in large crowds. Sometimes you think your ready and then, oops,
your horse is acting like an idiot. :) Maybe one or two horses started a
sort of pattern and it became a chain reaction type of thing. I think with
this type of behavior, it only tells me that we only need to help educate our
new riders into the sport. I personally liked the vets, and with 12 riders,
we got to see and know them pretty well.
