Re: RC: Re: Quarter Horses

I ride about all of the So. Cal rides in endurance and I have yet to see a
Haflinger on any of the 50's. I did, however see a couple on a few of the
NATRC rides I did last year. They did not ride in the open competion. I do
body work on a couple of them, and I find them much too heavy muscled and
somewhat plagued with hoof problems. (ring bone, side bone, deteriorating
bone diseases) These were of the old style S series. I have seen the newer
lighter versions they are now breeding. These may possibly work for
distance riding, however, I wouldnt recomend going out and buying one
specifically for distance riding. I seriously doubt that they would hold up
for very long and hot weather would be a serious detriment to them. The
ones that I have ridden with here in our area have a tendency to pant and
have a difficult time cooling themselves. They are an interesting horse and
I do like them, I just dont see them as suitable for endurance riding.
