QH in Endurance
I have a quarter horse that I use for competitive trail (25 miles). I
hope to use him next year for 50 milers. He is of racing quarter horse
stock (Easy Jet, Jet Deck), but he also has Wimpy on his dam's side. He
is atypical of the QH type. He stands 16 hands and weighs 1000 pounds,
very leggy, good feet, thin skin, good conformation. He seems to be more
of the flat-muscle type. His recoveries are terrific.
The racing QH looks very much like a thoroughbred or a tall Arabian. In
fact, the first time I saw this horse, I thought he was an Arab. The
last CTR I was on, everyone kept asking what type of Arab he was, was he
a cross, etc. When I told them his breed, they couldn't believe it. Kept
saying what great recoveries he had for such a large horse . . . and a
QH at that!
I think quarter horses are like any breed. You have to find the right
individual for the job. Good luck!
