yes, maggie, you're right that one Arab stallion was at the 'root' of the
Haflinger breed. many 13-14 hh Haffies are 1200 lbs but there are a lot of
people now that are breeding a lighter built type more suitable for work
under saddle (jumping, dressage, pleasure classes etc).
my gelding is by a Haflinger x a granddaughter of both *Raseyn and
*Serafix, he is a half sibling to Judy Houle's Shatir (same dam by arab
stallion). he's gray instead of the Haffie color but very substancially
built -- we have size 3 easy boots!!!! i've only done a few limited
distance on him and we may get back to it after some time off due to
personal circumstances but he was conditioning well and every training ride
brought a change in his heart rate/recovery.
