I put my water bladder in a contoured backpack. The rest of the space in
the main compartment is filled with useful, but cushiony, stuff like my
Aussie poncho. I can reduce the bouncing with chest and waist straps, and
it has mesh pouches on the sides which can be adjusted with snug straps.
Those side pouches are where I keep 'hard' stuff that needs to be on me and
not the horse. I know I could still get hurt if I fall on my side, but at
least it's not near my spine.
